The tent was a great idea. I may bring one if we'll have the space.
It might be nice to do something about following the late night runners if it's really rural/remote. A third car can/might be an idea. We can do this with just 2 vans, but need to be a bit more creative. -

I'm a big fan of the tent. Dick's sells 2 person tents starting at $27. They're small - made to fit in a backpack. There's also one-person tents that you can get on Ebay for about $50.
Another thing to consider is a backpacking pad to lay your sleeping bag on.
Of course, if the weather is nice -- just put a tarp down and throw your sleeping bag on top of it. -
